History
Most illegal drug use goes unreported in today's world. It is unrealistic to think that you can enforce drug laws everywhere. The US has the Prohibition Era
as proof of this fact. The American approach in today's Drug War denies the people from the truth about the Drug War. The truth is today we face some of the largest drug cartels ever, who have
elaborated their methods to the extremes. And in a world where the United States is supposed to lead into the future, it is the country with the highest consumption rates! The United States
faces an ultimatum: Either continue it's legitimate, but costly path fighting in the War on Drugs, or start considering alternatives.
One alternative is comprimising with the other side. The power of this lies in the information, which no longer has to be hidden. The United States has this drug problem because of it's own laws which
relate illegal drug use to jail. If people are using drugs for recreational purposes, then it's obvious they will not go flaunting this evidence at the police. Instead, they will hide their act,
thereby protecting their reputation in society. And what we're left with is a secret which continues haunting the world. Do you believe it helps not to know your enemy?
The United States faces this on-going drug problem due to the lack of an easy method for its people to report this kind of data. The most familiar ways include local law enforcement, a counseling or rehab center,
or an out-dated survey. Neither of these attract the recreational drug user at the necessary level, which leaves society with a very limited picture of today's illegal drug markets.
The United States overview of drugs in black markets has always been a tedious estimate, numbers which many have called irrelevant due to miscalculation. To correct this, we at DopeStats feel that if there is a need to know who is using what drug, then ultimately that's a choice the drug user
should make, and a choice the rest of society must allow them to make for its own good. And by who is using what drug we mean what county, not what people. That is the old thinking that has
brought us to today, which defeats the purpose and further hinders our progress in the War on Drugs.
DopeStats was started early 2009 by a computer science student at Florida State University. By answering our short surveys, drug users can provide immediate statistics for the rest of the public. This means the public can have the most up-to-date data available 24/7. Our data is
compiled by anonymous users providing information about their use of legal and illegal substances.
The nature of this site is based around the idea that the numbers we call drug use statistics for a nation must be a collective effort of the people
to raise awareness in their own communities.
What We Do
Plain and simple, we raise drug use awareness. We allow drug users to post information such as the drug they used, its quantity, quality, an identifying image, and overall location in the United States. We protect the privacy of those people who choose to submit such information, by providing a secure means of communication which is commonly used for payment transactions on the World Wide Web.
For information on how drug use surveys have been conducted in the past, please visit these two articles at Erowid:
To submit drug use statistics:
- Go to the main map and choose a substance. Next choose the state, then choose a county. The questionnaire for the county you've chosen will appear on the next page
To browse the statistics or lookup prices:
-
Go to the main map and choose a substance. Scroll to the bottom and you will see the most commonly reported usage amounts. The form on the bottom right of the pages allows you to search drug prices nationwide or by county. To search by county, you must first choose your state, then your county, and enter the details of the substance.
